Not only did Taylor Swift miss the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, she also skipped fiancé Travis Kelce’s first NFL game of the season. Fans had hoped to see the singer in the stands on Friday, as the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers, but were left hanging when Taylor missed Travis’ first game of the 2025 NFL season.
So why, exactly, did Taylor skip Travis’ season debut? Don’t worry—there isn’t trouble in paradise for the newly engaged couple. It was just a case of logistics. In an effort to appeal to international audiences, the NFL hosted the Chiefs vs. Chargers game in Brazil, and—as reported by The Daily Mail—the hassle and cost of security for Taylor just didn’t make sense for a two-hour game. (A 12-hour private jet flight isn’t cheap, y’all!)
“She would have wanted her security team there a few days ahead to make sure everything was okay,” a source told the outlet. “So, with all that combined, it would have been a tremendous cost for only a few hours to be in the city.”
According to TMZ, Taylor wasn’t the only Chiefs fan missing from the stands. The site reported that no other WAGs or families made the trip, so at least Taylor was in good company. And, besides, who among us has not canceled plans after realizing it would take too long and cost too much to get there?
That said, Taylor’s absence was a real blow to Brazilian fans, especially after local outlets reported that the singer had arrived in the country earlier that day. Fans reportedly swarmed the game, hoping to catch a glimpse of the star. Even professional commentators got in on the fun, singing “Shake It Off” and wearing slightly terrifying Swift masks ahead of kick off.
While she was a regular during Travis’ 2024 season, Taylor’s 2025 game schedule remains unknown. She’s gearing up for the release of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, and who knows where the album promo will take her. Still, given their engagement, fans can expect to see Taylor attend games throughout the season—and maybe even at the Super Bowl halftime show.
