Earlier today Karim blogged this video below of a female tennis player Anna Kalinskaya calling out a male player Holger Rune for sliding into her DMs too many times before eventually getting the hint. 

Anna is a delight, as is her dog Bella who she frequently brings with her on tour. 

For added context, Anna is the ex of Jannik Sinner and Nick Kyrgios so it’s not like she doesn’t date other tennis players. Holger seemingly saw the opportunity and jumped in. They’re both young, why not? In tennis you lose A LOT. Most of the time your tournament ends with you losing a match. Dating works like that as well, but if you never take your shot then you’ll always have to live with the unknown. For crying out loud, Travis Kelce is going to marry Taylor Swift because he shot his shot. Legit anything is possible. 

Well, Holger saw his name being besmirched online from the interview and went on the defense.  

You could just feel the awkwardness of that “ha ha ha.” Just a tough start to the response if we’re calling it down the middle. Clearly didn’t consult any of his boys before hitting send there. A simple Michael Scott meme would have sufficed. 

Holger went with a bit of a word salad approach and tried to spin it. I think it’d be the better move to just own it, especially since a few months ago another women’s player called him out for the same shit. Again, what do I know? 

I’m interested to see if Anna comes back with the DMs and let’s the public decide for themselves. Holger put himself in a bit of a corner there with the denial. She can go over the top now and make him look silly. Or he was just trying to have a nice convo and she took it the wrong way! Only one way to find out. Release the messages!
