 The Panthers enter league play following a 2-2 draw against Stony Brook on Sept. 6. Freshman Johan Helan scored his second goal of the season, while sophomore Alejandro Nasato netted his first career tally in the contest.
 
Heading into their fourth year as an affiliate member of the American, FIU is projected to finish second in the conference after appearing in the 2024 American Conference Championship match.
 
Helan has enjoyed a breakout start, earning AAC Freshman of the Week honors after recording goals in back-to-back matches for four total points. The Saint-Denis, France, native has started all five games, ranks second on the team in minutes (363), and is tied for the team lead with two goals.
 
Junior forward Pasquale Capriati also earned his first AAC Honor Roll selection of the season after producing a goal and two assists last week. The Altamura, Italy, product leads FIU with seven points and 10 shots, while sharing the team and conference lead in assists (3).
 
Midfielder Scott Neil has anchored the lineup, starting every match while pacing the team in minutes (395) and tying for the team lead in assists. Defensively, Owen Travis has started four matches and logged a full 90 minutes in the draw against Stony Brook, while Alfonso Gilleard Soriano has started the last three contests.
 
In net, Beltran Fernandez earned his first career start Saturday, while Nigel Van Haveren started the first four games and is tied for the conference lead in saves (18).
 
HISTORY WITH THE TIGERS
FIU holds a 7-5-1 all-time record against Memphis.

The Panthers defeated the Tigers, 3-1, in the 2024 AAC Semifinals and earned a 2-1 comeback victory in their last trip to Memphis in 2023.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS

Memphis, the reigning AAC regular-season champion, enters 1-2-3 after drawing Jacksonville on Sept. 7.

 

Saad Chaouki leads the offense with two goals, while goalkeeper Filip Sabatti, the 2024 AAC Goalkeeper of the Year, has started five matches and is tied for the league lead in saves (18).

FIU takes on FGCU on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. from Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium. It will be streamed live on ESPN+.
