Police have apprehended a person who repeatedly showed “hostile behaviour” at Yellowknife’s Stanton Territorial Hospital, the NWT’s health authority says.
In a Thursday evening news release, the health authority said the person was detained at about 10am after causing concern that morning and on another occasion earlier in the week.
Exactly what occurred on either occasion was not specified. RCMP have been approached for comment.
The health authority said it had issued a news release “to make the public in Yellowknife aware” of what had taken place.
“The NTHSSA takes situations that may pose a threat to the safety of others very seriously. We would like to reassure residents that there is currently no threat to public safety at STH,” the health authority wrote, using initialisms for itself and the hospital.
“All necessary procedures for incidents of this kind were followed and the situation was contained quickly.
“The NTHSSA would also like to express its gratitude to the staff and security at STH for their swift and effective response in mitigating the situation, as well as to the RCMP for their prompt and timely action.”
