The Portland Trail Blazers are on the verge of bolstering their training camp roster.
Javonte Cooke has agreed to sign an Exhibit 10 contract with the Blazers, a league source told The Oregonian/OregonLive, and he will join the team for training camp.
Cooke, who has played the last three seasons in the NBA G League, will be given an opportunity to compete for a two-way roster spot with the Blazers.
The 6-foot-6 guard performed well at the NBA Summer League in July, averaging 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in five games for the Miami Heat, which piqued the Blazers’ interest.
The solid summer league showing followed a standout G League season for the Oklahoma City Blue. Cooke averaged 16.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists, while shooting 43.1% from the field, in 31 games for the Blue. He started 23 games and averaged 27.4 minutes on a team that went 18-16 and finished seventh in the Western Conference.
Cooke has played 88 games, including 55 starts, over the last three G League seasons, averaging 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Blue and Iowa Wolves.
He played college basketball at the Division II level, splitting time at Winston-Salem State and Mars Hill University, before going undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft.
The Blazers’ 15-man NBA roster is full and two of their three two-way roster spots are occupied by Sidy Cissoko and Caleb Love, but Cooke will have a chance to earn the final two-way spot.
