The Sooke RCMP have arrested seven teens for “severely” assaulting another youth, which was filmed and shared on social media.

The assault occurred on July 2 in the 6660 block of Goodmere Road and the victim required medical care, according to RCMP.

Police say they were notified of the assault by family members of the victim on July 3, noting that a video of the attack was also posted online.

On Friday, more than two months after the attack, Mounties said all of the suspects had been located and arrested.

“Investigators gathered evidence which led to the identification of seven youth who participated in the assault,” said Sooke RCMP in statement. “Warrants for their arrests were obtained.”

Staff Sgt. Greg Willcocks, detachment commander for Sooke RCMP, said police were “taking the allegations of this assault very seriously.”

“We are aware of concerns from parents regarding the arrest of one youth near school grounds,” he said in a statement Friday.

Anyone with information on the assault is asked to contact the Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241.

None of the charges against the teenaged suspects have been proven in court.
