Jonathan Kuminga is “strongly considering” taking the $7.9 million qualifying offer with the Golden State Warriors that would end his restricted free agency and allow him to reenter the market during the 2026 offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Kuminga has until October 1st to make a decision.
Kuminga’s preference has been to sign a longer term contract that both sides are amenable to, but there’s been little movement in talks. The Warriors have been pushing a two-year, $45 million contract with a team option in Year 2 and also eliminates Kuminga’s ability to reject any trade.
The Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls are believed to have the most interest in Kuminga.Â
Kuminga has been one of four key restricted free agents from the 2021 class this offseason. Cam Thomas signed the qualifying offer with the Brooklyn Nets, while Josh Giddey eventually signed a four-year, $100 million deal. Quentin Grimes also remains at a stalemate with the Philadelphia 76ers.Â
