Liverpool will now be making efforts to tie Arne Slot, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards down to new long-term contracts after future-proofing their squad.

It was the work of Hughes, Edwards and Julian Ward, along with Slot and Liverpool’s expansive recruitment team, which paved the way for the summer’s ambitious spending.

With a strong hierarchy in place both within the club and wider at Fenway Sports Group, a record-breaking transfer window was executed without risking financial issues in the future.

Deals for Alexander Isak, 25, Florian Wirtz, 22, Hugo Ekitike, 23, Milos Kerkez, 21, Jeremie Frimpong, 24, Giorgi Mamardashvili, 24, and Giovanni Leoni, 18, have set Slot’s squad up for years to come.

While Liverpool will continue to strengthen – and likely with a renewed push to sign Marc Guehi next year – the summer window can be considered a one-off.

Now, the focus can be on tying Slot, Hughes and Edwards down to new contracts, with the Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe reporting that all three are into the final two years of their existing deals.

The situation is not exactly the same as with players – whose careers are considerably shorter – but FSG will still be eager to secure new agreements as soon as possible.

Slot has already intimated that he is happy to emulate the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola in spending close to a decade in charge of the club.

Meanwhile Hughes has taken a big step up from his position of technical director at Bournemouth to prove himself capable of operating at an elite level at Liverpool.

Edwards will also be committed to FSG for the long haul with plans to acquire further clubs still in the works – and any expansion will be overseen by the 46-year-old and others within FSG such as Ward.

Slot signed a three-year contract upon his move from Feyenoord last summer, with reports in the Netherlands claiming it is worth a basic wage of €8 million per year.

That will be boosted by further bonuses, including for winning the Premier League as he managed in his debut campaign, but his status as arguably the best young manager in the world will warrant improved terms.

Such has been the success of Liverpool’s recruitment in the summer just gone there is little risk of discontent within the dugout.

Nor is it likely there will be major disputes in the boardroom, either, with there a clear harmony at all levels of the club which may not have been the case in years gone by.
