Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Trey Yesavage will start Monday in Tampa against the Rays, manager John Schneider told reporters Sunday.
Schneider added that Yesavage’s role will be determined after Monday’s start. He also said the rookie is not on an innings limit for 2025.
Reports of Yesavage being called up broke Saturday night and he was with the team at Rogers Centre Sunday ahead of their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.
The 22-year-old has made 25 appearances in the minor leagues this season across four levels, with 22 of them coming as starts. He owns a 3.58 ERA with a dominant 160 strikeouts in 98.0 innings pitched.
He was selected by Toronto 20th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft while pitching in the NCAA for the East Carolina Pirates.
The Blue Jays enter play Sunday with the best record in the American League at 86-62, good for a three-game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East.
