Vancouver Canucks’ Thatcher Demko Opens Up on the Drama Between Elias Pettersson & J.T. Miller

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers weighed in on the feud during a recent podcast appearance, where he said it wasn’t as big of a deal that it was made out to be and he isn’t the only member of the Vancouver Canucks to share their thoughts on the matter.

After inking a three-year extension with the club earlier this month, Vancouver Canucks netminder Thatcher Demko spoke to TSN 1050 radio where he was asked about the feud between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller.

Demko said that it certainly affected the team’s locker room in a negative way before Miller’s trade to the Rangers and trade rumors led to some uncertainty when it came to what could happen with the club’s core.

“Obviously, our locker room went through some stuff last year and the media took hold of it. Everyone knows about the drama that went into the Pettersson and Miller stuff and that affected our room in a negative way. There was some uncertainty of what was going to happen with our locker room, and it put guys in tough positions when there isn’t a ton of security in the room.” Demko said.

After the club dealt J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson, who had a difficult year partly because of the feud, slowly got back to being a better player for the club and went on to record ten points in 11 games in March, but unfortunately picked up a season-ending injury against the Rangers.

With the difficult season behind the team and everyone back at 100 percent health, including Thatcher Demko, the Canucks are hoping that they can take a step forward during the 2025-26 campaign and hopefully make it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next April.
