Gamers may see more graphical enhancements with the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy than anticipated. The Nintendo Switch 2 game will boast reworked textures that aren’t always found in straightforward ports. Even so, the $70 price for the bundle with Super Mario Galaxy 2 is excessive for some buyers.

Announced at the latest Nintendo Direct, many buyers weren’t thrilled at the cost of the new Super Mario Galaxy versions. On its October 2nd release date, buyers can purchase the Switch game as a bundle with Super Mario Galaxy 2. At $70 as a pair, or $40 individually, critics believe that the prices are unreasonable. Even so, screenshot comparisons suggest that the titles are more than simple ports.

Frustrated fans point out that the first galactic platformer was part of the 2020 Super Mario 3D All-Stars. The improvements for the new edition include a modernized UI and alternatives to motion controls. Switch 2 owners will see the most benefits, with a free 4K upgrade patch. However, Nintendo didn’t offer many specifics on the visual updates.

Posters on the Switch 2 subreddit and social media have been dissecting the Nintendo Direct trailer. One gamer discovered more details with the textures in the latest Super Mario Galaxy version. Side-by-side images demonstrate how Nintendo didn’t just upscale flat-looking mud, grass, or stone. Gamers can see clearly defined patterns in their surfaces.

Other comparisons confirm that the developers have given attention to 3D objects. During a cinematic sequence, Princess Peach’s eyes now look much more lifelike. When exploring planets, it may also be easier to see objects farther in the distance.

The 2020 reissue of the 2007 Wii game was more of a conventional port, lacking many perks. Of course, fans will also receive Super Mario Galaxy 2, which has yet to come to Switch consoles. Nevertheless, the new remasters may not be enticing enough for some buyers. Nintendo Direct featured full-priced Switch 2 games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and DLC for new titles that will stretch budgets.
