The Canadian dollar strengthened against the greenback on Monday, and the yield on benchmark government debt slipped.

The loonie was trading 0.1% higher at C$1.3824 to the greenback, or 72.34 U.S. cents, after trading in a range of 1.3816 to 1.3848.

Canadian government 10-year bond yields fell 2.7 basis points to 3.162%. The yield on similar U.S. government benchmark debt fell to 4.0375%.

U.S. October crude futures rose 26 cents to $62.95 a barrel on Monday.

Canadian factory sales rose 2.5% in July from the previous month, Statistics Canada said. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected factory sales growth of 1.8%.
