Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage recorded nine strikeouts against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday, setting a franchise record for the most in an MLB debut.

The 22-year-old righty pitched into the sixth inning on Monday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks as he left the game with the Blue Jays trailing 1-0 to the Rays.

Yesavage is the Blue Jays’ top prospect and the 25th-ranked prospect across the major leagues, according to MLB Pipeline.

The 22-year-old was drafted 20th overall by the team last June and spent this season pitching across four levels of the minors, compiling a 3.12 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 160 strikeouts over 98.0 innings pitched.

In six appearances (four starts) with the Bisons, the 6-foot-4 hurler has recorded a 3.63 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 17.1 innings.

Toronto entered Monday’s action with a four-game lead over the New York Yankees for top spot in the American League East with an 87-62 record.
