Lil Nas X has entered an inpatient treatment program. Following his arrest last month, the Grammy winner, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was scheduled to appear in a pre-trial hearing in Los Angeles on Monday. According to Rolling Stone, Hill’s lawyers told the court he was not able to attend the hearing because he is “in treatment” at an out-of-state facility. His lawyers did not specify what exactly the singer was receiving treatment for.
“Defendant is allowed to remain out of state as long as he remains in treatment,” Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Shellie Samuels said, adding that if Hill’s “treatment changes, and he becomes outpatient, then we’ll talk.”
Following the hearing, Hill’s lawyer Drew Findling told reporters that they are “doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly for his well-being.”
“He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him, and we’re just addressing those issues. It’s really as simple as that,” Findling said. “He’s had a great life, and he’ll continue to have a great life. This is a bump that he’s going to get over.”
Last month, the LAPD responded to reports of a man walking “nude in the street” in Los Angeles before identifying the individual as Hill. The 26-year-old was arrested and hospitalized for a possible drug overdose. A few hours after he arrived at the hospital, Hill was discharged and taken to jail, according to the New York Times. He was charged with four felonies — three counts of battery with injury to a police officer, and one count of resisting an executive officer — for which he could face more than ten years in prison. Hill pleaded not guilty in a court appearance in August and was released on a conditional $75,000 bail. His next hearing is set for November.
The Cut has reached out to Hill’s representatives for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
