Shaun Wilson, from Poole, has set up a petition to enable access to mental health support at hospitals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The 28-year-old has suffered with his mental health from his teenage years, and is hoping to do something that would help others at times of crisis.
He said: “During the night, I find that I struggle quite a lot. I’ve found that a lot of mental health services aren’t available at hospitals anywhere during the night.

“I just thought to myself, it would be easier if there were mental health doctors around because I know billions of people in the UK suffer with their mental health, and a lot of them suffer during the night, as well.”
His proposal would mean people could access support in person at any hour, without booking appointments.
“I think there should be some allocated funding for that”, he said.
“People find it easier – certainly myself – I find it a lot easier to speak to people face-to-face with that sort of thing, rather than over the phone. I don’t know why, I just think a lot of people agree and I find it a lot easier.”
The petition Shaun set up has been online since Friday, September 12 and has already received more than 50 signatures.
“A lot of people struggle with mental health in the UK, and a lot of people deal with it in different ways.
“I think, if my petition was successful, and we managed to get funding for people, or for doctors to work during the night with people suffering with their mental health, I think it would make it a lot easier for people who are suffering.
“At least then they have a place to go when they’re feeling low or suicidal – or anything like that really.
“I feel it would benefit me, personally, but I want to try and help others. That’s my main goal to try and help other people as well.”
