The battle erupted after Sunjay Kapur, chairman of the ₹30,000-crore Sona Group, passed away from a heart attack on June 12, 2025, while playing polo in England. Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, has raised serious allegations of coercion and misrepresentation regarding the group’s management and control. In a letter to the Sona Comstar board ahead of its annual general meeting, she claimed she had been forced to sign key documents “behind locked doors,” denied access to her own accounts, and warned of “gross illegalities” within the group. Born into a family with deep roots in the automobile industry, Priya pursued academics abroad, earning a degree in mathematics and business management from University College London.
