ST. LOUIS, MO – The Missouri State men’s soccer team (3-1-2) tied against No. 7 Saint Louis (3-1-3) on Tuesday night, with a 1-1 scoreline.
MSU junior Daniele Aracri scored his first goal as a Bear in the 57th minute to equalize things, and Missouri State’s defense held up the rest of the way to preserve the tie.
The Bears and the Billikens were neck-and-neck in a tenacious first half, with both teams only getting two shots in. Bears goalkeeper Will Lowry made a pivotal save in the 20th minute to keep the score at 0-0 heading into the second half.
Both teams amped up the aggression in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Saint Louis capitalized on its first scoring opportunity and scored to take the lead. But just four minutes later, Aracri set himself up to slam the ball into the bottom left of the net with his right foot to tie the score at 1-1.Â
In total, MSU tallied five shots with three on goal and Saint Louis recorded six shots with three on goal. The Billikens tallied nine corner kicks to one for the Bears.Â
“This was a matchup between two of the top programs in college soccer, where for much of the game it was deadlocked. They scored on a restart, and we responded very well and it was great to see Daniele Aracri get his first goal as a Bear. This was a good team performance, and we will rest up and get on the road to for a top American Conference matchup with FIU. We have played a great schedule and the guys continue to deliver in tough games,” exclaimed head coach Michael Seabolt after the game.
Missouri State will resume American Conference play Sunday when they travel to Miami to face FIU at 5:00 p.m. (Central).
