PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team hits the road this weekend, with a pair of players heading to the ITA All-American Championships and the rest of the squad playing at the University of Delaware’s UD Invite.
 
Junior Esha Velaga will represent the Quakers at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C., which begins on Saturday and runs through September 28. Sophomore Lara Stojanovski will also compete, earning a spot in the pre-qualifying singles draw of the tournament. The ITA All-American Championships feature the nation’s top NCAA Division I players.

The UD Invite will run from Friday to Sunday in Newark, Del.

*NJIT, Villanova, Syracuse, and Temple will join Penn and the host Blue Hens at the UD Invite.

 

*Sophomore Stojanovski was selected for the All-American pre-qualifying singles draw; she went 3-0 in doubles with Sasha Motlagh at William & Mary’s Tribe Invitational last weekend.

 

*Freshmen Joleen Saw and Varsha Vedula recorded their first singles and doubles wins lsat weekend at the Tribe Invitational.

 

*Velaga earned the No. 78 spot  in the ITA’s preseason national singles rankings, the highest in the Ivy League, and is the only player from the Ivy League to be selected to the main singles draw of the ITA All-American Championships.
