After what was a difficult transfer window for the club, it’s fair to say that Celtic fans are not all that impressed with the current start of the first team squad at Parkhead.

Celtic allowed some big name players to leave over the summer, with the likes of Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah being allowed to leave for sizeable fees. Despite this, they were slow to sign high quality reaplacements.

While Kelechi Ihenacho would sign on a free transfer after the end of the transfer window, but it would not be a surprise to see them enter the market for new faces in January.

If one report is to be believed, Brendan Rodgers already has an eye on a player he knows well.

Brendan Rodgers Eyeing Shock Celtic Reunion With Former Player

Football Transfers are reporting that Celtic are eyeing a shock January move for Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling.

Sterling has been frozen out of the first team at Stamford Bridge, training away from the main group after failing to leave the club over the summer. His rumoured wages of £300,000 per week on deal running until June of 2027 were a massive stumbling block when it came to getting him off the books.

It is suggested that Celtic would be willing to cover around £50,000 of that weekly salary in order to sign the player on loan in January.

This deal would certainly not be ideal for Chelsea, who would still be on the hook for the vast majority of Sterling’s wages. However, of they are unable to find more favourable terms elsewhere, they could consider the move in order to get the England international out of the club.

Brendan Rodgers knows Sterling well, having established the player in the first team as a teenager during his time at Liverpool. The winger would go on to become one of the best players in the Premier League under his management before joining Manchester City in the summer of 2015.

He would certainlt be an interesting addition to the Celtic squad, although it remains to be seen how realistic a deal would be.
