A toe injury kept San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy sidelined for Week 2, but it’s possible he returns against the Arizona Cardinals this week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Purdy was a “long shot” to play against the New Orleans Saints and missed the 49ers’ 26-21 victory. Now, says Shanahan, the quarterback has “a chance [to play].”
“Anytime you hear turf toe, you get so nervous about that stuff,” Shanahan said. “You just don’t know which kind it is, and the fact that he’s been able to do some this week, I think, is a real good sign and gives him a chance to go on Sunday.”
Though he was limited in practice this week, Purdy told reporters on Thursday that he’s “happy with the progress” he’s made
“Definitely just got to see, come game time, how I feel,” Purdy said. “Obviously, I want to play every game. I want to be out there. We only get 17 regular-season games and every game matters, especially divisional going against the Cardinals. If you ask me, I’d love to, but I’m trying to be smart with my body here. You never know, we’ll see when the game comes.”
Mac Jones, who completed 26 of 39 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns in Week 2, will start if Purdy is unable to play.

Other notable Week 2 injuries:
Micah Parsons was nowhere to be found on the Green Bay Packers’ injury report this week. After dealing with a back injury, he looks fine to play with no issue against the Cleveland Browns. As for a snap count, head coach Matt LaFleur responded, “We’ll see” when asked if the edge rusher would remain limited in his game involvement.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was deemed “day-to-day” with a knee sprain this week, according to head coach Dan Quinn. The second-year signal caller did not practice this week and Quinn said Friday would be an important day in determining Daniels’ availability for Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Emeka Egbuka did not practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week due to a hip and groin injury. The rookie wide receiver out of Ohio State is second on the Bucs with 96 receiving yards and leads the team with three touchdown catches.
Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy remained limited in practice and it’s unclear if he’ll return for Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants. Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder in Week 1 after colliding with tight end Travis Kelce.
Quarterback Justin Fields has already been ruled out for the New York Jets’ game against the Buccaneers after suffering a concussion in Week 2.
