Travel receipts soared 12.7% in January-May

Travel receipts showed a significant increase in May and the first five months of this year.

In particular, according to data from the Bank of Greece, in May, which is also the precursor month of the summer season, travel receipts increased by 17.7% on an annual basis to 2.248 billion euros, while arrivals decreased by 2.7%.

In the period January-May 2025, the relevant receipts increased by 12.7% to €4.352 billion, and arrivals by 2.1%.

According to data from the BoG, in May, the current account balance showed a small surplus compared to May 2024 – recording an improvement of €2.5 billion – and amounted to €196.5 million.

The goods balance deficit narrowed, as imports declined and exports increased marginally. At current prices, exports increased by 0.3% (7.8% at constant prices) and imports decreased by 14.3% (-12.3% at constant prices).

At current prices, exports of goods excluding fuel increased by 11.0% (14.7% at constant prices), while imports of goods excluding fuel increased by 7.1% (6.5% at constant prices).

The surplus in the services balance increased due to the improvement in all individual balances, mainly the travel balance and, to a lesser extent, the balances of other services and transport.
