BC Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke set the single-season passing yards record by a Canadian in Friday’s game in Calgary against the Stampeders.
The 27-year-old entered Friday’s contest needing only 38 yards to break the mark, previously held by CFL legend Russ Jackson, who tallied 3,641 yards in the 1969 campaign.
Rourke, from Victoria, B.C., surpassed the mark on a 33-yard hookup with Keon Hatcher in the opening quarter as BC worked to build a sizeable lead over the Stamps.
Rourke had 3,604 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions heading into Week 16. He also had 381 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Rourke and the Lions went on to win 52-23 over the Stamps Friday night, moving to 7-7 on the season.
