HUNTSVILLE | The UAH women’s soccer team defeated No. 13 Lee to open Gulf South Conference play on Friday night at Charger Park 2-0. The Chargers improved to 3-1-1 (1-0 GSC) with the victory, while the Lady Flames dropped to 2-1-1 (0-1 GSC).

The victory marks the first win over Lee for the Chargers since September 2, 2000 when they won a 5-4 match in overtime. UAH notched the first goal of the match at the 9′ mark as Michella Tortelli found the top right corner of the net off a high-arcing pass from Campbell Tarentino.

UAH would net their second goal of the match at the 55′ mark with a cross from Jayla Gillespie that found the right foot of Adriana Rojas who buried a shot into the back of the net.

The Lady Flames out-shot the Chargers 17-to-4 and had five shots on goal to UAH’s three. Additionally Lee attempted 10 corner kicks in the match, while the Chargers attempted zero.

Next up for UAH is a road matchup with Trevecca Nazarene on Sunday, September 21 at 2 p.m.
