Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is “feeling better every day” as he continues to recover from a knee injury, manager John Schneider told reporters Friday via MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.

Schneider added that Bichette did some light hitting on Friday in Kansas City ahead of Toronto’s series-opener against the Royals, including soft toss and tee work.

Bo Bichette is “feeling better every day”, John Schneider says, and started light hitting today.

Still plenty of things to check off as he builds up to running the bases and playing defence, but it’s a start. #BlueJays

Schneider also said that Bichette still has a lot on his checklist as he builds up to running the bases and playing the field.

Bichette suffered a sprained PCL in his left knee on Sept. 6 on a slide into home plate against the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays officially ruled him out for the rest of the regular season earlier this week but hope to have him back for the postseason. Toronto can officially lock up a playoff spot with a win over the Royals and if at least two of the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Guardians or Boston Red Sox lose Friday night.

Prior to the injury, Bichette was having one of his best offensive seasons heading into free agency this winter. He’ll finish the regular season with a .311/.357/.483 slashline alongside 18 home runs and 94 RBI. Despite not playing for nearly two weeks, Bichette still leads the American League in hits (181) and doubles (44).

Toronto will send veteran righty Max Scherzer to the hill Friday night in Kansas City, where the Royals will counter with Michael Lorenzen.
