The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have played a couple thousand baseball games through the years, from one coast to the other.

After Friday night’s Dodgers win, the all-time series is now tied, 1,287 wins to 1,287 wins.

And amazingly, it’s the first time their all-time series has been tied since Aug. 10, 1896.

There are a few important details to note about those 1896 teams, of course.

They both played in New York City, for starters. The Giants were the New York Giants, pretty simple.

The Dodgers? In 1896, they were known as the Brooklyn Grooms.

And if you think those are the only fun facts you’re getting, you’re wrong.

The Grooms’ ace pitcher in 1896 was named Brickyard Kennedy (his real name was William).

And the Giants’ ace? Dad Clarke, also real name William.

The Grooms remained the Grooms until 1899, when they became the Superbas. They kept that name for a dozen seasons until the term Trolley Dodgers earned them their moniker that stuck.

Back in 2025, the Dodgers had a special Friday night. Clayton Kershaw made his final home regular season start before his retirement. Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts blasted back-to-back homers to take the lead and not look back.

On Saturday, the Giants and Dodgers will play to break the all-time tie.
