The race for the rainbow jersey heads to Africa for the first time as Rwanda hosts the 2025 UCI Road Cycling World Championships.

Kigali’s hilly, high-altitude roads will decide who wins cycling’s most iconic jersey.

Nearly 1,000 cyclists from more than 100 nations have made the trek, though some nations have brought reduced lineups due to logistics, costs, and other issues.

Competition kicks off Sunday with the elite women’s and men’s individual time trials.

Remco Evenepoel will have a stiff challenge for Tadej Pogačar in the men’s race, while former two-time world champion Chloé Dygert will give Team USA a good chance for a medal in the women’s race. The hilly course could favor Demi Vollering or Marlen Reusser for the gold.
