Wildlife officials confirm there is a cougar guarding a deer kill in the area between Black Bear Bridge and the Marysville entrance.

The City of Kimberley has temporarily closed public access to the Lion’s Trail between Black Bear Bridge and the Marysville entrance as a safety precaution due to cougar activity in the area.

According to a City release issued at around 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, wildlife officials have confirmed that there is a cougar guarding a deer kill in the area and may therefore behave defensively if approached.

Residents are asked to respect the closure signs and avoid the area until further notice and to watch the City social media pages for updates as to when it’s safe to reopen.

“Thank you for helping us keep both trail users and wildlife safe,” the City said.
