Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that he will travel to New York City from September 21 to 24, 2025, to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

In a more dangerous and divided global landscape, the federal government says Canada is strengthening its international partnerships to build prosperity and advance solutions to pressing global challenges.

During his visit, Carney will meet with world leaders to promote peace, security, and human rights, including efforts to stabilize Haiti and address the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. He will stress the need to end the suffering of Palestinian civilians, to release hostages held by Hamas, and to move toward a just and lasting peace, with Canada intending to formally recognize the State of Palestine predicated on key reforms and alongside international partners.

The Prime Minister will reaffirm Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s aggression. On the margins of UNGA, Carney will co-host a meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to mobilize international humanitarian support for the return of Ukrainian children unlawfully taken by Russia.

As G7 President, Carney will also attend a UN summit focused on building a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient global economy. He will affirm Canada’s commitment to development financing, climate competitiveness, and leadership in shaping the new international financial architecture, while working to diversify markets and unlock new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses.
