LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Minnesota State women’s golf team finished round one of the Jewell Invitational with a three-stroke lead Monday.
As a unit, MSU shot a 295 (+11) at the par-71 Jewell Golf Club. Arkansas Fort-Smith trails the Mavericks in second place with a 298 (+14).
“The women played a really good round of golf,” head coach Alex Schmitz said. “Emerson carding a hole in one on 15 was the highlight of the day. It’s really fun to see the women continue to play well.”
Junior Victoria Woytassek finished the round in first place in the individual standings as she shot a 70 (-1), which included five birdies, four of which came on the back nine.
Sophomore Emerson Garlie followed right behind in second place as she finished the day even at 71. Garlie recorded two birdies on the front nine before she notched a hole in one on the 168-yard par three on 15.
Senior Samantha Youngquist shot a 76 (+5) to finish the round in 11th place, while both senior Ava Olson and sophomore Mila Jenniges finished the day in 19th place with scores of 78 (+7). Junior Lauryn Keller finished in 26th place as well with an 80 (+9).
