The convicted sex offender Randall Hopley has been released from custody and is now living in Vancouver, the city’s police department says.
Randall Hopley is out of custody on a recalculated statutory release date, as mandated by law.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it has compelling reasons to believe the 60-year-old poses a high risk to the public and to breach his conditions.
These conditions include a nightly 6 p.m. curfew and not having contact with his victims or their families.
Just in May this year, Hopley broke the court conditions by leaving a halfway house the day he was released from prison.
He was serving another 18 months’ jail sentence that a B.C. judge had ordered in May 2024 after Hopley pleaded guilty to breaching the conditions of his long-term supervision order on two occasions in 2022 and 2023.
The Parole Board of Canada said Hopley has a pattern of breaching court-imposed conditions, including a prohibition on contact with children and on accessing pornography.

Hopley was convicted of sexual assault and abduction of persons under 14 years of age.
The Parole Board decision said Hopley’s criminal history dates back to 1985, and he’s been convicted of sexual assault, child abduction, and various property offences.
Hopley is 5’9″ and is approximately 175 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
Investigators from VPD’s High Risk Offender Unit will work with Correctional Service Canada to monitor Hopley.
Police ask anyone who sees him breaching his release conditions to call 911.
