FT: Barnsley 0-6 Brighton
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “If I had to decide my favourite [Gomez] goal then it would be the second or third. But it is not only the goals that we are happy with, how he works for the team too.
“Defensively he was always there, especially against the rotations from Barnsley on the left hand side. He took it seriously and that is what we demand. he is a great offensive plyer, he can create and shoot, and today he proved it.”
On if this result was a statement of intent: “Unfortunately six goals only bring you one round further, not two or three, every game is new and starts from zero, so the next opponent will be another tough game. Every cup game is 50-50.
“Of course these games give you confidence that you can score a lot of goals and outplay a defensive team, and we saw in other rounds that it’s not so easy to beat these teams. First you have to dominate the game and then score the goals and in the last rounds we achieved this and we were pleased with this.”
