SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners are on the brink of clinching a playoff spot as they host the Colorado Rockies tonight.

Fresh off a sweep of the Astros in Houston, the Mariners are in a strong position, and fans are buzzing with anticipation.

I think they’re going to get it tonight, I do,” said Thomas Spindler, a Mariners fan who flew in from Alaska. “The Rockies have been a pretty down team lately, and we’re on the rise.

“They need some help to get it tonight, the math gets a little complicated, maybe not tonight but certainly before the weekend,” Ron Johnson, who came up to Seattle from Portland to watch the M’s, noted.

For fans like Jo Jackson, the Mariners’ winning season has been a thrill.

“Mind-blowing, it’s just been so amazing,” Jackson said. “It’s not just Cal Raleigh, it’s all of them; they work so well together.”

The Mariners’ success is also a boon for local businesses.

“They bring a lot of business every time they play, not just for us, for everybody around,” Julio Chacon, who works near T-Mobile Park, said,

With sold-out crowds expected for this weekend’s games against the Dodgers, the Mariners are set to have plenty of support as they make their playoff push.

“Look, they’re on a roll, Julio is going to step up, he’s going to get 62 home runs, it’s my prediction for Cal, and maybe another grand slam for Crawford, it’s going to be great,” Johnson said.
