The Edmonton Elks signed wide receiver T.J. Luther to the practice squad and released wide receiver J.J. Jones II on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.
T.J. Luther is six foot one and weighs 180 pounds. The 25-year-old from Arcadia, Florida, signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023. In 2023, he played in four preseason games. He was targeted five times, but made no catches. The Jets released him on August 29, 2023.
Next, the New England Patriots signed Luther to the practice squad on September 1, 2023. He spent the season on and off the practice squad. The Patriots released him on June 6, 2024. Then, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Luther on August 14, 2024. In 2024, he played two preseason games. He was targeted one time against the Buffalo Bills.
The Steelers released him on August 26, 2024. The Green Bay Packers signed him to the practice squad on September 10, 2024. He spent a couple of months on the practice squad before he was released on October 19, 2024. The Carolina Panthers signed him on December 4, 2024. In 2025, he made three catches for 49 yards, one kick return for 17 yards, and one punt return for eight yards in three preseason games. The Panthers released him on August 25, 2025.
Collegiately, Luther played three seasons at Wofford College (2018-20) making 39 catches for 878 yards, eight touchdowns, 15 carries for 96 yards, on punt return for 26 yards, 28 kick returns for 725 yards, one touchdown, three tackles (3 solos), and one blocked kick in 27 games, of which 12 were starts for the Terriers.
Then, he transferred to Gardner-Webb University (2021-22) with 78 catches for 1,419 yards, 11 touchdowns, two carries for one yard, seven kick returns for 179 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 19 games for the Bulldogs. He was named First Team All-Big South in 2022.
J.J. Jones II is six foot two and weighs 210 pounds. The 22-year-old from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, went undrafted in 2025.
Collegiately, Jones II played four seasons at North Carolina (2021-24) making 110 catches for 1,794 yards and 11 touchdowns in 47 games for the Tar Heels. He averaged 16.3 catches per game and 38.2 yards per game.
