Mabior Chol will need to prove his fitness to take the field this weekend against Carlton, as three further Hawks continue their rehab ahead of Round 20.
Chol was ruled out ahead of the clash with Port Adelaide last weekend due to groin soreness and will need to prove his fitness to take to the field this weekend.
Noah Mraz (Knee) and Josh Weddle (Back) are making progress from their respective injuries, while Finn Maginness (Kidney) remains in Royal Hobart Hospital as he recovers from a lacerated kidney sustained in the Round 19 clash on Saturday.
High Performance Manager Peter Burge provided an update on all four players.
Mabior Chol – Groin (Test)
“Just a niggle really. And you know, the season’s built up and we’re up to Round 20 this week and like other players that carry some niggles from time to time, we just needed to back off for a week and give him a break and reload and just double down on some strength work. But he resumed training today outside, we still just need to assess after today’s session how he pulls up tomorrow and what’s the best plan for him over the next week or two, so we’ll make a judgement call on his availability in the next day.”
Noah Mraz – Knee (5-6 weeks)
“Tracking really well, started some strength work and doing some cross training, there’s a few more hoops to jump through first before we start running again. But at this stage it’s stability, strength work and just time really. But we’re confident he’ll play football again towards the end of this season.”
Finn Maginness – Kidney (TBC)
“A terrible injury, and the most important thing at the moment is his health and wellbeing. Finn’s still down in Tasmania with family and seeing specialists and getting the best advice but this stage that’s where he’ll be for the for a few more days as I understand and we’ll hopefully get him back to Melbourne towards the end of this week. And then we’ll be able to update a little bit further once we’ve got more information around his prognosis moving forward. But the most important thing at the moment, is his health and wellbeing, and that’s what we’re managing.”
Josh Weddle – Back (TBC)
“Progressing well, he’s started some different activities, some stair walking, he’s doing some strength work, stability work. We’re due for a scan next week I understand to give some more information about his progression back into running, which we’ve got some confidence levels that we’ll be doing. But at this stage, he’s exercising and building himself slowly and we’ll have more information in the next week or two.”
