DALLAS – Following her first career brace against Cincinnati, freshman Samira Minor was named Big 12 Conference Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Minor is the second Houston Soccer player to win a weekly award this season after graduate goalkeeper Lexi Gonzalez was tabbed Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 10.

The Frisco, Texas, native recorded two goals in the Cougars’ Big 12 Conference opener against Cincinnati. It was the first win in a Big 12 Conference opener for Houston since joining the league and the most goals scored in a single game in Big 12 play.

The weekly honors are the first of Minor’s career and the first time in program history that a player earned multiple weekly awards in the same week.

Kansas’ Caroline Castans was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week while Kansas State’s Maddie Sibbing was tabbed as the league’s Goalkeeper of the Week.
