Jimmy Kimmel is exercising his First Amendment right as a U.S. citizen and firing back at Donald Trump after the President of the United States hinted his late-night talk show would be canceled next.

“I’m hearing you’re next. Or maybe it’s just another wonderful secret,” Kimmel posted on Instagram, taking a jab at Trump.

Trump had taken to Truth Social, calling out Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon and assuring his followers their shows would have the same fate as Stephen Colbert’s.

“The word is, and it’s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone,” Trump posted. “These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!”

Last Thursday, CBS announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would be ending its run at the end of the 2025-26 season. The network said that the cancellation of The Late Show was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night” and “is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

The news dropped after Colbert called Paramount Global’s $16 million settlement of Trump’s 60 Minutes lawsuit a “big fat bribe.” Settling the suit had been considered a move by Paramount to help secure FCC approval for the Skydance merger.

Following the announcement, Trump took to social media to celebrate Colbert’s cancellation, saying, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”

Colbert has seen an outpouring of support from Hollywood, including his fellow late-night talk show hosts such as Seth Meyers, John Oliver, John Stewart, and Andy Cohen, among others.
