On Monday, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports requested a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction so their six charters could keep racing for the rest of the season as two teams’ antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR rages on.Â
Part of the team’s claim is that their drivers, headlined by Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick at 23XI Racing, may move to a new team in order to keep driving for charter cars.Â
NASCAR has responded to the restraining order. Per The Athletic, the circuit claimed in its latest filing that there is “No credible risk (or even threat) that any of Plaintiffs’ drivers will leave mid-season, let alone over the next two weeks. None of their evidence even makes that claim”.Â
Reddick sits highest in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series playoff point standings amongst drivers without a win. Wallace, also without a win, would currently sneak into the playoffs in the 16th spot.Â
This response strikes a different chord from what US District Court judge Kenneth Bell wrote last December when he explained that Wallace would have to consider other options without a chartered car from 23XI Racing.Â
“We will defend NASCAR’s integrity from this baseless lawsuit forced upon the sport that threatens to divide the stakeholders committed to serving race fans everywhere.”
“We remain focused on collaborating with the 13 race teams that signed the 2025 charter agreements and share our mutual goal of delivering the best racing in the world each week, including this weekend in Dover.”
