Mounties in B.C. are looking for potential victims of a scammer at the Nickelback concert that took place in Lake Cowichan earlier this summer.
The popular Canadian rock band performed at Laketown Ranch on Aug. 9, and police say several people were allegedly scammed into purchasing fake entry wristbands from a man at the concert grounds.
“With the assistance of event security, a suspect male was identified, taken into custody and released with a future court date,” said Lake Cowichan RCMP in a release Thursday.
“While some fraud victims have come forward, the Lake Cowichan RCMP believe there are additional victims who have not been yet identified,” police said.
Mounties are now looking to speak with any additional potential victims, or anyone who may have information on the incident, at the Lake Cowichan RCMP detachment line at 250-749-6668.
Fake entry wristbands aren’t the only thing that drew police attention to the Nickelback concert on Vancouver Island.
A woman who was walking home from the event was struck by a beer can that was thrown by a passing vehicle, triggering a medical emergency.
Riley Smith told CHEK News that her friend had recently undergone open-heart surgery when she was struck by the can.
“He threw it — and it hit my friend right in the stomach,” said Smith. “She dropped to the ground. We all dropped to the ground.”
“She was convulsing, hyperventilating, she lost her breath,” she said. “We actually performed CPR.”
Mounties said that the 22-year-old victim received life-saving CPR before she was brought to hospital.
She was released from hospital the next day, and in August police said they continued to search for the person who threw the can.
