A Mississauga man is facing nearly 30 firearms-related offences after police say they seized six guns, including one that was modified to be fully automatic.

In a news release issued Friday, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said members of the service’s Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) began an investigation in May into the alleged trafficking of firearms and prohibited devices in the province.

The OPP said they collaborated with police services in Peel Region and London and on Sept. 11 an individual identified as Gurpreet Gill, 28, was arrested.

According to police, search warrants executed on a vehicle and at a residence in Mississauga yielded six firearms, including one investigators say was equipped with a selector switch to make it fully automatic.

A semi-automatic rifle, more than $30,00 in Canadian cash, and cell phones were also seized.

Gill has been charged with 27 offences, including trafficking firearms, possession of a firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He has since been released from custody, police said, and is scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Oct. 22.
