A press release from Samsung Display claims the Z Fold 7 is much more durable than the Z Fold 6, with more than double the average lifespan.
The press release claims that in a test conducted by Bureau Veritas, a global testing, inspection, and certification company, the Z Fold 7 survived 500,000 folds over 13 days at room temperature. For somebody who, on average, folds their phone 100 times a day, those 500,000 folds translate to at least 10 years of use on the Z Fold 7. More active owners who fold their devices closer to 200 times a day are likely to still get at least six years of use out of the Z Fold 7.
In comparison, the Z Fold 6 was tested to survive a minimum of 200,000 folds, which means it has an average lifespan of 5 years, lower for more active owners.
Early reviews of the device have echoed similar conclusions, like FlashingDroid stating that the hinge on the Fold 7, although thinner and lighter, seems just as strong and sturdy as the hinge from the Fold 6 and CNET sources Samsung as saying the hinge was made with an aluminum design, which made it 10 per cent stronger despite being lighter and thinner.
Samsung claims its new titanium frame and shock-resistant structure are among the many reasons the Fold 7 is much more durable.
These improvements made for the Z Fold 7 are Samsung’s way of addressing the durability concerns surrounding folding screens and devices. They offer users much more confidence about the Fold 7’s lifespan.
