RCMP in Sundre, Alta., have lifted a “shelter in place” advisory that was issued Friday morning following reports of a man with a gun, who was seen wandering around the community.

The advisory, telling residents to stay inside their residences and “not open the door for anyone,” was issued shortly after 8:30 Friday morning, but was lifted about an hour later after RCMP said a suspect was in custody.

A post on social media, from the RCMP in Sundre, advised residents of the central Alberta town to ‘shelter in place.’.

Schools in the community were put in lockdown, and school buses were told to stop in a safe place and not to pick up anyone else.

Police were also advising parents to “not attend the school” and asked residents to report any suspicious activity or other tips to Sundre RCMP or through Crime Stoppers.

So far there’s no word on possible charges.

Sundre is located about an 80-minute drive northwest of Calgary and has a population of close to 3,000 people.
