Paul McCartney has officially revived the beloved Beatles hit, ‘Help!’, for the first time since 1990.

The former Beatle is set to embark on a tour of the United States beginning on September 29th in Palm Desert, California, and will perform a string of dates through until November.

However, just a few days before his tour officially kicks off, he played a show in Santa Barbara and opened the night out in style. McCartney revived ‘Help!’ for the very beginning of the show.

He debuted the renewed classic on September 25th at a VIP soundcheck with a ticketed audience, launching straight into ‘Let it Be’ and ‘Love Me Do’ afterwards. At the official show on September 26th, he began with ‘Help!’ and followed on with ‘Coming Up’ and ‘Got to Get You Into My Life’.

He closed the 26-song Friday night set with an encore that opened with a virtual duet with John Lennon for ‘I’ve Got a Feeling’, and ended the night aptly with ‘The End’.

Though McCartney mostly played Beatles tunes at the show, new music is reportedly on the way. A source told The Sun: “Paul has been working on the album all year and initially hoped it would be out by the end of this year but as with most things plans change. It’s not quite finished but the majority of the album is done and Paul is really proud of it.”

McCartney has always had a formidable approach to playing live. The iconic musician once celebrated his 3000th gig in St Petersburg, and spent £20,000 on dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide) to be fired into the sky above the audience so that the forecasted rain wouldn’t impact his show. Somebody ought to have told McCartney then that reviving a classic Beatles tune is a much cheaper way to do this.
