Canadian author and peer support expert Kim Sunderland will be in Sudbury next week for a special reading and book signing session at the Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA) office common area in downtown Sudbury.

Sunderland, the author of “It’s All Gonna Be Okay: From Mad to Sad and Better Days” will be in Sudbury on Oct. 3 for the event

In a news release, NISA said it is proud to welcome Sunderland, calling her a nationally recognized leader in peer support and the co-author of the report on Mental Health Commission of Canada’s Peer Support Guidelines.

Her new book offers a lighthearted, practical guide to building resilience and cultivating self-awareness. “With warmth and humour, Sunderland combines lived experience and evidence-based strategies to help readers shift their mindset, manage stress, and move toward greater calm and confidence,” a news release states.

Sunderland’s reading session takes place from 12-1 p.m. at the Elgin Street location, said a NISA news release. The admission is free and copies of Sunderland’s new book will be available for sale, signed by the author. The event will also feature a brief Q&A session with Sunderland.

“Peer support has always been about hope, connection, and resilience,” said Sunderland. “Through stories and strategies, my book aims to bring these same values to everyday life.”

Sunderland was the inaugural executive director of Peer Support Canada and co-chaired the 2014 and 2016 National Conferences on Peer Support. She lives in Mississauga.
