Details from the report:
Hires: 5.1M (3.2%) — little changed m/m; little changed across all industries.
Total separations: 5.1M (3.2%), little changed; down in accommodation & food services (-113k) and arts/entertainment/recreation (-48k); up in state & local gov’t ex-education (+27k).
Quits: 3.1M (1.9%), little changed; down in accommodation & food services (-140k) and arts/entertainment/recreation (-22k); up in construction (+56k).
Layoffs & discharges: 1.7M (rate 1.1% unchanged); down in wholesale trade (-36k) and federal gov’t (-4k).
Other separations: 295k, little changed.
The Job openings were higher than expectations. It was also higher vs the previous month.
Within the details, the BLS is reporting that hires, total separations, quits, layoffs and discharges and other separations were all “little changed”.
Note that absent a continuing resolution before midnight tonight, it jeopardizes the release of the US jobs report on Friday at 8:30 AM ET.
