Warriors officially re-sign 6-foot-3 guard, legendary two-sport athlete to new deal originally appeared on The Sporting News

Depth will be key for the aging Golden State Warriors throughout the 2025-26 season, and a recent decision by the franchise’s general manager Mike Dunleavy has ensured that the team will always have a pair of young legs ready to be deployed at any point throughout the campaign.

Following their key free agent acquisitions of De’Anthony Melton, Seth Curry and re-acquisition of 2022 NBA champion Gary Payton II to support Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler, one could argue that the Warriors have little room to experiment with their guard rotation.

Even still, Dunleavy and Golden State reportedly extended an opportunity for fan-favorite point guard and former collegiate lacrosse legend Pat Spencer to remain with the franchise heading into next season.

“The Golden State Warriors have signed guard Pat Spencer to a two-way contract, it was announced today,” Warriors PR shared via Twitter/X on Monday.

“Spencer, 29, averaged 2.5 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 6.4 minutes over 39 games with Golden State last season.”

“He was selected to participate in the 2025 Castrol Rising Stars Game, playing for Team G-League during NBA All-Star 2025 at Chase Center.”

The former Rising Stars Game participant and sneaky athletic guard appeared in a career-high 39 contests for the Warriors in 2024-25, but Spencer really made his mark for their Santa Cruz G-League affiliate, as he contributed 22.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.3 rebounds while knocking down 40.0% of his 5.0 attempts from three-point range in 31.7 minutes.

Spencer will have the ability to make an impact for Golden State on a two-way deal, and it’s plausible to believe that he could see a few minutes here and there for a team that will likely be missing out on Melton and Seth Curry’s services for the first few weeks of the season.

Prior to beginning his NBA career, Spencer became one of the greatest players in the history of collegiate lacrosse while playing for Loyola University Maryland from 2016-2019.

He was then selected with the first overall pick in the Premier Lacrosse League collegiate draft by the Archers Lacrosse Club in 2019, but instead of continuing his lacrosse career, he decided to play professional basketball in Germany.
