Cyclists have one last chance to ride the Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) without vehicle traffic, as the fall cycling experience wraps up today.

Parks Canada first piloted the vehicle-free cycling experience from 2022 to 2024 along the eastern 17-kilometre section of the Parkway. The pilot restricted vehicle access in spring and fall to allow cyclists to enjoy the route safely.

The pilot proved popular, with strong public demand and positive feedback. As a result, Parks Canada has extended the program for an additional five years, from 2025 to 2030.

During the extended pilot, Parks Canada will continue to monitor visitor experience, accessibility, safety, enforcement, and wildlife management. Adjustments may be made to improve the program and guide long-term planning.

Parkway is only open for vehicle-free access from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the fall period, which ends today, October 2.
