Jiri Prochazka had to dig deep to come back from a 2-0 round deficit to knock out Khalil Rountree in the co-main event of UFC 320.
Things were not looking good for Prochazka after the first round. Rountree looked faster and slicker, while Prochazka was slipping all over the canvas and hesitating on his shots. “BJP” got into his groove a bit more in the second, but Rountree’s volume was still higher and he was connecting more.
Something changed in the third round, though. Perhaps it was Rountree tiring. Perhaps it was Prochazka going for broke. But the Czech fighter bit down on his mouthguard and stepped into the fire, chasing down Rountree and hammering him with shots to the body. He opened up with his striking, unleashing an endless barrage of punches and elbows that had Rountree hurt.
The end came at 3:04 of the third round as Jiri backed Khalil into the cage and hit him with a tight right hand, sending Rountree crashing to the canvas unconscious and bleeding.
The win puts Prochazka on a two fight win streak. Khalil Rountree is now 1-1 since his failed title fight against Alex Pereira.
