Despite dominating proceedings on Saturday morning at Mzuzu Stadium, second-placed Ascent Soccer dropped two crucial points following a frustrating 0-0 draw against MK Academy in the ongoing National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Women’s Premiership.

Heading into the match, Ascent trailed log leaders Silver Strikers Ladies by three points, with the top-of-the-table side scheduled to face fourth-placed Kukoma Ntopwa Women on Sunday Afternoon at Mpira Stadium.

Meanwhile, at Champion Stadium, MDF Lionesses cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over visiting Moyale Sisters, climbing to 11 points — just two above Ntopwa Women (9 points) ahead of their crucial tie against Silver Strikers.

At Mzuzu Stadium, Ascent Soccer appeared destined for victory after controlling much of the game, but wasteful finishing and resolute defending from the hosts saw them share the spoil

Leticia Chinyamula tested the MK Academy goalkeeper in the 17th minute with a powerful freekick, while a defensive blunder in the 59th gifted Mayamiko Mkandawire a one-on-one opportunity — only for her hesitation to allow the goalkeeper to recover.

Ascent continued to press, with Mirriam Mnenula firing wide in the 32nd minute before Fatima Lali was denied by the towering MK shot-stopper on the stroke of halftime.

The visitors maintained dominance after the break, but Mkandawire squandered another clear-cut chance in the 67th minute. The biggest miss came in the 88th, when Lali failed to convert from point-blank range — summing up Ascent’s frustrating afternoon.

At Champion Stadium, MDF Lionesses and Moyale Sisters went into the break goalless, but the hosts turned up the tempo in the second half. Striker Fazila Chiyembekezo opened the scoring in the 65th minute, followed quickly by Catherine Kachala’s strike two minutes later.

Lioness forward , Sabina Thom, added the third in the 73rd minute before sealing her brace ten minutes later (83’) to complete a resounding 4-0 win. Her outstanding display earned her the Player of the Match accolade.

Action continues on Sunday, headlined by the clash between Silver Strikers Ladies and Kukoma Ntopwa Women, which could determine whether the leaders maintain their perfect winning record.

Elsewhere, Mighty Wanderers Queens (9 points, 4th place) travel to Civo Stadium to face Civil Service Women, while FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women (7 points) host bottom-placed Topik Academy at Kamuzu Stadium — all matches kicking off at 10:00h.
