The San Jose Shark have acquired defenceman Ryan Ellis and a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Carl Grundstrom and defenceman Artem Guryev on Sunday.
Ellis, 34, has not appeared in an NHL game since the 2021-22 campaign while dealing with a career-threatening back injury.

The 5-foot-10 right-shot defenceman is entering the seventh season of an eight-year, $50 million deal that carries an annual cap hit of $6.25 million.
Drafted 11th overall by the Nashville Predators in 2009, Ellis has 76 goals and 275 points in 566 career games split between the Predators and Flyers.
Grundstrom, 27, appeared in 56 games with the Sharks last season, recording three goals and nine points.
He is entering the second season of a two-year, $3.5 million deal that carries a cap hit of $1.8 million.
Drafted 57th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016, Grundstrom has 43 goals and 76 points in 292 career games split between the Los Angeles Kings and Sharks.
Guryev was drafted 135th overall by the Sharks in 2021 and split last year between the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda and ECHL’s Wichita Thunder.
