A year removed from her silver medal Olympic performance, Canadian weightlifter Maude Charron showed that she’s still in peak form.

The 32-year-old from Rimouski, Que. had a stellar showing in the 63 kilogram division at the IWF World Weightlifting Championship, held in Forde, Norway, which runs from Oct. 2 to 11.

A 2020 Olympic gold medalist and a silver medalist last year in Paris, Charron placed third in the snatch (103 kilograms) and second in the clean and jerk (133 kilograms) and won a silver medal for her combined total of both lifts. She finished behind North Korea’s Ri Suk (253 kilograms total).

Charron was thrilled to break the 130 kilogram mark in the clean and jerk. She lifted 131, then 133 kilograms.

“I finally got past 130 (kilograms),” she told the IWF website. “It must be the Norwegian air. I really wanted to do well here because I love this place.”
